Whatever happened to Benny Lewis? A personal update
You may have seen Benny Lewis active online years ago, but not so much recently. Why is that? In today's very personal update, I explain why I haven't been uploading much in recent years. I decided to be vulnerable and share some major life struggles that I've been going through. The timestamps in the video are: 00:00 Intro 01:21 Burnout 02:42 Debt 04:50 Divorce 06:57 Depression 09:15 Conclusion Follow my other social media for more frequent updates: https://ift.tt/2Fsrb5u https://twitter.com/irishpolyglot https://ift.tt/2SLhQIL My absolute lowest point was in 2018. Fortunately, I've been able to turn things around and am feeling better and on the road to recovery from all the separate issues I've had, with varying degrees of progress on each. I wanted to give some context around my struggles before I share ways that I've dealt with these issues to help me get to a better place. I know this isn't the content I typically used to upload, but I imagine a lot of you are struggling in your own unique ways in 2020, so maybe my upcoming "actionable" videos on this theme can help. I also am very much aware that other people have had their own difficult struggles, so I'm not trying to use this video to say I'm worse off than others, since I am aware I am lucky in some other ways. This is just my story that I wanted to share, to help reduce stigma against being open about mental health issues and difficult times. These rough years also sapped energy from my language learning projects and they were mostly on hold for several years, but I've finally started re-activating them this year thanks to the progress I've made. So, all of this does ultimately tie back into having that mental energy to learn languages, that you may have originally followed me for. Hopefully, this series helps some other people struggling. Thanks for watching!

One Jump Ahead from Aladdin: Benny's Multilingual re-enactment edition
This video has been a long-term project of mine, that I somehow managed to record the video of entirely in my living room, using green screens I threw together. Despite that, I think that I managed to maintain a pretty decent feel for the original animated movie! I sing the actual lyrics from the non-English official Disney versions in European and Latin American Spanish, European and Canadian French, European and Brazilian Portuguese, German and Italian, while trying to act out as close as I could get to the original animated version, playing all characters while I'm at it. I really hope you enjoy this!! Please share it with a Disney fan or fellow language learning friend, and let me know your thoughts about it in the comments below!

12 years as IrishPolyglot on YouTube: 🔴Live behind the scenes look & Q&A of some of my best uploads
On October 28th 2006, I created this YouTube channel, and came up with the name "Irish Polyglot". I used it to comment on other videos for a few months and then got into making my own. While I didn't upload my first video immediately, it still marks an important day for me, as I entered the YouTube world, started engaging with others online (several years before I had a blog or twitter) and thought about what kind of message I could start getting out there to encourage language learners. Join me in this livestream, where I will go back and re-watch some of my best videos with you, and give you some backstory to them, and answer any questions you may have had about them!

"Boise" (ID): How do you pronounce it?? [vertical video]
"Boy-zee"? "bwahz"? "boy-see"? "boh-ice"? I find the pronunciation of this capital city of Idaho so confusing, that I had to show what an international perspective on it looks like. Enjoy this fake gameshow I made of me doing multiple international personalities to try to say it! To me, the French pronunciation of the word makes the most sense (its origin is the French for "wooded"), but see the "American" personality correct me on that... And you'll also notice that I'm testing out YouTube's new option to upload vertical video. This was originally on my IGTV (Instagram) account a month ago, but I wanted to share it here too, for anyone who missed it! Make sure to follow my Instagram for stories and IGTV updates like this more frequently! I actually have several: https://ift.tt/1WhCvBJ is my main one for my daily life updates. https://ift.tt/2KPH16K is the one I use for exclusively language-learning, foreign culture and language-related updates https://ift.tt/2BBY6A7 is Schatzi's (our puppy's) https://ift.tt/2KPbZvX is my gaming Instagram. Follow me on any one of these to see very frequent updates. Otherwise, plenty of videos coming on this YouTube channel again soon!

Is 10 the cut-off "critical age"? Response to bogus news
Multiple articles have been making the rounds in language learning news, and even been shared by BBC, with "proof" that the critical age in language learning is 10. Let's investigate how solid this claim is, and find multiple holes that show some pretty weak ways they reached this conclusion. Join me in this livestream, where I pick it apart with several arguments, and join in on the discussion!

Irish name pronunciation crash course
Find the pronunciation of Irish names, based on spelling, to be confusing? Then this ~1 minute video with 6 quick rules is for you! This isn't exhaustive (I've a more detailed video that goes into the rules in more depth here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU9w9qLynwE ), but it should help you most of the time to fix the biggest problems you might face when it comes to how to say names of people from Ireland! Please keep in mind that I had to skip a LOT to make this video as short as it is, so feel free to leave comments on my more in-depth video (already more than a half a million views!) if I don't cover it there!
